Demand for Green
Even during tough economic times the green building movement continues to grow, according to a report by the National Association of Home Builders.
40% of contractors find “building green” is easier to market during these tough times, and 60% of builders believe home owners will pay more for green homes. The RNS article, “Green Building Still in Demand,” cites these statistics as well as the emphasis nowadays on quality over “doing the right thing,” a common reason for building green in the past. An optimistic future for sustainable construction appears to exist even during the current state of the economy. A move towards energy efficiency and quality homes, president-elect Barack Obama’s recent weekly radio address, and the McGraw-Hill report’s projection that the value of green buildings could reach up to $140 billion by 2013 all shed light on the future of green building.
