LEED for Homes – Platinum

David (founder of USGBC) and Sara Gottfried’s recent restoration of a 1915 home marked the highest scoring home renovation since the launch of the LEED for Homes Green Building Rating System in January 2008. A press release reveals that the home received 106.5 of a possible 136 points, thus obtaining a Platinum rating. Other things this press release point out are the home’s:

- Size – At 1500 square feet, the home is half the size of the family’s previous home, thus reducing their footprint
- Gray Water System – The used water from the 2 showers, bathtub, and sinks are used for landscaping
- Design as a Net-Zero Energy Home – By using both its solar and hydronic powered water-heating systems as well its solar photovoltaic power generation, the home aims to produce the power it needs without drawing from the power grid
- “Eco-Bling” – The Gottfried’s refer to the colorful abalone tiles that decorate their home as “eco-bling,” reminding us that green homes can be and often are, beautiful
